James Halliday Tasting Notes:
This has the Pyrenees coffee grind riff planted in its firm tannins, segueing to spearmint, sage, assorted dried herbs and briar. Unusually for cabernet, this was made intuitively with some whole cluster fruit, adding a savoury tone to the sculpture of tightly furled tannins, lavish oak and concentrated fruit. There is nothing excessive about it despite its unbridled richness.
"How wonderful to be able to make wine from the fruit of your best blocks of vines, and name then in honour of your children."
Planted in 1970 this Cabernet block has always produced the most outstanding fruit. Blackcurrant, plums, cedar and spice fill the nose while the palate is filled with fruit and firm, fine soft tannins. Foot stomped due to 50% whole bunch.
